Sometimes we think of beach destinations as summer family vacation options, but there is a lot of fun to be had at the beach in the fall and winter, too. Personally I love that the beach and the surrounding area are a tad less crowded this time of year, so we can explore and enjoy our favorite spots a little more easily. The temperature is also delightful during the fall and winter months…not too hot and not too cold, just right as Goldilocks would say. There are also a ton of fun things to do with kids in Daytona Beach no matter what time of year you visit. I had the privilege of growing up near Daytona Beach, FL, so I know some of the best spots you’ll want to visit if you’re planning a holiday beach escape.
Fun Things to Do with Kids in Daytona Beach, FL
Special Holiday Events the Family Will Love
Riverfront Holiday Story Book Exhibit and the Downtown Holiday Dazzle – Take a walk through life-size storybook pages that illustrate a special visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus to Downtown Daytona Beach. Also visit the other activities that are part of the Downtown Holiday Dazzle including a full schedule of holiday festivities like weekly holiday performances and a FREE Kid Zone with games, crafts, trackless train rides, and Santa.
December to Remember at the Bandshell – Head to the bandshell for visits with Santa, a holiday craft village, a holiday sand trail, and live musical performances. While you’re there stop in for a bite to eat and some holiday shopping at the Ocean Walk Shoppes.
Ice Skating – Go ice skating at the Daytona International Skateway year round. Be sure to check their schedule for any special events. This holiday season you can Skate with Santa during a special skating event with Santa, hot chocolate, and holiday music.
Catch a Holiday Show –The Peabody Auditorium always has great shows for kids and adults. This holiday season you can see Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, a fun family-friendly musical.
Non-Seasonal Fun in Daytona Beach
These spots are great to visit no matter what time of year you’re in town. Some of them may also have special events for the holidays.
Beach and Splash Park – Of course, you have to at least dip your toes in the ocean while you’re in Daytona Beach. There are options for driving directly on the beach or going to a non-driving section depending on your personal preference. Sun Splash Park is one of our favorite places to park. There is a shaded playground and an interactive splash park. The kids love hoping back and forth between the ocean and the splash park.
Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory – Stop in for a free tour of the Angell & Phelps Chocolate Factory. See how candy makers have been making chocolates the old-fashioned way since 1925. Gobble up some free samples, and grab a few holiday gifts while you’re there, too.
Daytona Lagoon – Daytona Lagoon has options for both indoor and outdoor play. There’s a water park with a wave pool, lazy river, water rides, and slides to enjoy. Kids can also choose from Go-Karts, Miniature Golf, Laser Tag, Arcade Games, a Carousel, and a Rock Wall. When I visited with young kids, I especially loved that it’s a place that is big enough to have a fun day, but it is small enough that we aren’t exhausted from trekking all over like a big theme park.
Boardwalk & Pier – There is always something going on at the Boardwalk. See the view of the city from atop the Ferris Wheel. Test your skills in the arcade. Take a walk or go fishing on the historical Daytona Beach Pier. There are great options for family fun.
Museum of Arts & Sciences – My kids loved the attraction in the Children’s Museum at the Museum of Arts & Sciences. The especially enjoyed making pizzas at the Pizza Place, and the Tennis Ball Launcher was always a favorite. A free planetarium show of the night sky and a Children’s Laser Show are included with museum admission.
Daytona International Speedway – Watch a race or take a tour of the Daytona International Speedway. Little race fans six and older can also enjoy the Junior Ride-Along at the Richard Petty Driving Experience.
The local events calendar is always up to date with great events and activities. Check it out as you’re planning your trip. You might even be able to snag some special deals.
