In this free Christmas Theme Syllable Sort, your kids will learn to hear and isolate parts in a word. In this activity, students will practice segmenting words by clapping or tapping and then counting the number of syllables in the word. Students will sort words into sets based on the number of syllables.
This Christmas literacy activity is an easy way to add Christmas theme phonological awareness activities into your literacy centers, take-home literacy practice, or a fun way to celebrate the Christmas season while practicing seasonal vocabulary.
This free printable Christmas syllable sort can be used in so many ways, such as:
- Whole group using a pocket chart
- Small groups as part of skill practice
- Literacy centers for additional independent practice
After matching up the pictures by counting syllables, students can fill in the optional syllable worksheet as a quick reference for understanding or independent practice options.
Remember to introduce the vocabulary before expecting students to do the task independently so they are sure to know the words reflected in the pictures.
