Watch this quick video for to learn how we assemble these books in just a few seconds. You can also see each page included in the free printable.
I’ve made this book super easy to prep, because I know there are a million and one things to get ready for back to school. All you have to do is cut the entire set down the middle. Then staple along the sides of each book. Easy as that!
Grab some multicultural crayons or markers so that kids can choose the color that best matches their skintone. Here we used markers for completing our books, but you could also get even more creative and add in some collage art to some of the pages.
Each page also includes an area for recording personal responses. Have kids phonetically spell their responses and/or have a teacher record responses as needed.
Don’t forget to give kids the opportunity to share their books with a buddy or small group. It’s very motivating for young authors to share their work!
You can also combine this activity with our All About Me Self-Portraits and this free printable first week of school song for even more getting to know you activities the first week of school.
