Easy Heart Craft Suncatcher With No Contact Paper

I’ve mentioned before how much fun my girls have with tape. We keep a large selection of decorative tape in our craft area for their use. Last week when Tinker handed me an envelope creatively secured with nearly an entire roll of tape, I decided it was time to make a new tape craft. These easy heart suncatchers are perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. We made them without contact paper so they aren’t sticky. That means you have a few different options for using them.

ABOUT  VALENTINE’S DAY AND HEARTS.

You’ll need:

  • Heavy duty sheet protectors (or a similar type of clear thin plastic)–cut around the sealed edges so each protector makes two clear sheets.
  • Decorative washi tape–choose whatever designs match your theme or preference
  • Scissors

How to:

I didn’t really give Tinker any directions. She just sat down and started cutting tape. Kids can also tear the tape, whichever they prefer. She started covering the sheet protector, and when she was nearly done with one side I suggested she add more to the back (so we could see the designs nicely on both sides).

I love to watch her in deep concentration while she works to cut pieces of tape.

Focus

She covered a couple of pages that first day. Here is one example.

Once she was happy with her design we cut the page into heart shapes of various sizes. They look beautiful hanging in a window and add a little festive touch indoors and out.

But because they aren’t sticky you can also use them for other activities or decorations. We chose to poke a hole in a couple of them and make some necklaces. We used bead necklaces that were already on hand. You could also use string or some sort.

This version of the activity would be an easy craft to make at Valentine’s Day event or a fun way to send home hearts made in the classroom.
