During the late summer and fall months, we see apple trees once again sprouting fruit. Even if you don’t live near apple trees, you’re bound to see them in abundance in fall décor and at the grocery store. Our kids are excited about the possibilities of everything from candy apples to apple pies on the table. As part of our apple theme activities we do a ton of apple-inspired learning activities. With these free apple seed counting puzzles, your little ones can practice number recognition, counting sets, and one-to-one correspondence.

If you are looking for a quick math activity in your small groups or math centers, these free printable apple seed counting puzzles are a terrific quick-prep option. All you have to do is print, cut, and laminate if you desire.
Then, set out the puzzles using your favorite math manipulative. Here we are using red pom-poms to symbolize little apples. You can find these at any craft store or even Dollar Tree.
If you don’t have red pom-poms, you can use anything you’d like for a manipulative or even other seeds to represent your apples.
Having your students make their own manipulative using play dough can also be a great way to get in some extra fine motor practice.
You can easily differentiate this activity by limiting the number of puzzles available to students.
These puzzles are self-checking, so your kids can easily see if they have matched the correct pieces or not.
Instead of just having kids match the puzzles, have them count out sets of objects to match each number as well.
