Weekly Wrap-Up

Our week started with a bang, well a thud. We were planning a nice relaxing night, the last night of our winter vacation. Then, thud!  My daughter fell off a chair and got a big cut above her eye.  So, a little shaken, we made our first trip to the after hours doctor, and she got her first stitches. It made me stop to think about all of the “firsts” that we have celebrated so far and consider what “firsts” I might not welcome so eagerly.  What “firsts” were you surprised by with your little ones?

Stitches

It seems that winter is just going to skip us this year. Everyday that we do calendar and discuss the seasons, the kids laugh at me when we talk about the characteristics of winter. They have decided that either “it doesn’t really get cold in winter” or “it isn’t really winter.”  I think they are starting to question my credibility as their teacher. 🙂

Either way we decided to embrace the warmth, and we’ve continued to spend tons of time outdoors. The girls enjoyed a wonderful afternoon outdoors painting. I haven’t been much of a fan of the fence along our backyard, but it works as a perfect easel. Plus, there is very little clean up!

I love the relaxed pace that goes along with vacation, but it was nice to get back into our regular school routine this week. Our letter of the week was M, so we had a marshmallow theme. I am excited to share a lot of our activities with you starting on Monday. Here are some pictures from our investigations, and you can check out  my Letter M Pinterest Board to see the inspiration for a few of our activities.

Even our littlest buddy got in on some of our marshmallow play.

In addition to a letter of the week, we usually have a theme that last for a few weeks. This week we started learning about the animals of Australia. The kids enjoyed playing with the animals from our Safari LTD The Land Down Under Toob. We starting learning the names of the animals, and we read many new books about Australian animals. One of our favorites was Over in Australia: Amazing Animals Down Under. I always love these books. They provide so many great opportunities to learn and practice different skills. We used the book to count, rhyme, and learn facts about Australian animals.

Tinker is in play dough mode. At least once a day she asks for “dough.” She will sit for almost 30 minutes pushing small objects into the dough, taking them out, and pushing them back in again. It just fascinates her!

She is also a cuddle bug. I just can’t bring myself to say no when she makes this face and says, “Hold you?”

So that was a quick look at our week. How was your week? Are you back into a routine or slowly making your way in that direction?

Oh, no stiches – what a way to end winter break! (or mid year break, since painting outside – wow, it must be nice and warm) Looks and sounds like a lot of good learning at your house this week.

Let’s just say the doctor’s office was not on our list of “must see” places during vacation! But she’s fine, so I am grateful. Thanks for checking out our week!
