Valentine Heart Counting Puzzles

During the month of February we have a lot of fun with different Valentine’s Day activities. While Valentine’s Day is focused on all things love and candy, we like to take advantage of both to create a bit of Valentine-inspired fun and learning for the classroom!

Sometimes we’re making a fun Valentine’s themed playdough activity or other times we are focusing on other academic skills like counting, and of course there is always a fun Valentine’s Day sensory bin on hand. With these free printable Valentine heart counting puzzles your little ones can practice number recognition, counting sets, and one-to-one correspondence.

If you need a quick math activity that is easy to prep and that you can use during small groups or center time, these printable Valentine heart counting puzzles are perfect. Simply print, cut, and laminate if desired. 

Set out your puzzles and grab your favorite math manipulative. Here we are using Hershey’s Kisses. You can find these at just about any store or even The Dollar Tree during the Valentine’s season.

If you don’t have any Hershey’s Kisses, you could also use Valentine mini erasers, candy hearts, play dough, pom poms, or buttons to represent your hearts.

Having your child make their own manipulative out of play dough is a great way to add some extra fine motor practice too!

You can easily differentiate this activity by limiting the number of puzzles that are available.

Make these puzzles self-checking by adding matching stickers or colored dots/shapes to the back of the corresponding puzzle pieces.

If you are using Hershey Kisses, consider repackaging the candy so kids can keep their own bags once you’re finished with the counting puzzle activity.
