We can make shape activities very playful and hands-on for preschoolers and kindergarteners. Once kids are able to recognize basic shapes we can help them learn to construct the shapes with a variety of materials. As they build shapes they become even more aware of the characteristics that define each shape such as as the number of sides and vertices. This set of free printable shape play dough mats allows kids to work fine motor muscles and engage in sensory play while building 2D shapes.
Shape Play Dough Mats Freebie
These no prep shape play dough mats are perfect for math centers and small group math activities.
Laminate them or add them to dry erase pockets so that you can use them over and over again.
As kids roll out play dough snakes to create the sides they are getting excellent fine motor practice.
You can have children choose their favorite color of play dough, roll it out into long pieces and then break the pieces to fit inside each shape.
