These puzzles are simple to cut out, and since they use real photographs they can be used to inspire kids look for various shapes in the everyday objects they see around them. After connecting the concepts of the pictures in the puzzles they can look around the classroom or at home and point out the different shapes that they see.
You can easily differentiate this activity by limiting the number of puzzles available to students.
In the free printable set of shape puzzles we’ve also provide blank options. Instead of just having kids match the puzzles, you could have them draw their own sets of objects to match each shape as well. This is a fun way to differentiate and add in a little complexity for those who are ready.
It also saves on ink and inspires a bit of creativity!
You can also extend the activity by inviting kids to locate and sort other real objects that correspond to each shape. In the classroom you might consider providing a box or basket of pre-selected items to choose from, while at home you could explore the house together seeking out objects to sort.
The puzzles are designed to be cut apart into three rectangles as shown below. If you prefer to make them self-checking you might draw the corresponding shape on the back or use a colored dot to indicate which three pieces go together.
