We saved more pebbles from our rock demo activity to make the letter R craft that will go in our alphabet books. Since our books are getting quite thick I tried to use the smallest pebbles we could find in our collection.
Assembling the craft was very easy. The kids coated a paper R with glue and then sprinkled small pebbles all over it. They spent time making sure they placed their pebbles in “just the right spot.”
And now our R is for Rocks page is ready to be added to our books. The contrasting textures of our pages offer a real sensory treat as the kids go through and review their letters throughout the week.
You can find more activities and ideas for teaching kids about rocks on my Pinterest boards.

Where is the link to the rest of this thread?….are you doing it in order? e.g W for Wood, S for Shells, F for flowers etc…or is this just R & Rock based?…..you now have me going through the alphabet!

That’s a great question, Lisa! I didn’t start blogging until we were midway through our year, so there isn’t a series for each letter of the alphabet. As we revisit letters when my youngest gets ready I hope to fill in the blanks. On the blog at this point you can find M is for Marshmallows, N is for Night Sky, O is for Opposites, P is for Pandas (just a very short series with books and small world), Q is for Q-tip (fine motor and painting activities), R is for Rocks, S is for Seeds, T is for Trees, U is for Underground Animals, V is for Vegetables. Sorry to leave you hanging!

Great idea! Will you be sharing pictures of the kids’ letter books once they’re completed? I’d love to take a peek! I love the idea of having all their letter crafts in a book that they can flip through and review on their own.

Thanks! I do plan to share the completed books once we are finished. They are a great tool for review, and I’m also hoping to include a few pictures to go with each letter so they also serve as a memory book of our fun this year.
