Hide and Squeak Game for Kids

This month the Poppins Book Nook is reading books about pets. When I thought of this theme I immediately thought of the Splat the Cat collection. It’s a really fun series of books to read with young kids, and my girls always enjoy the different books about Splat and his pet mouse, Seymour.

Hide and Squeak Game

We used our cat and mouse masks to play a twist on the classic game of hide and seek. You don’t have to have the masks to play, but wearing them made it just a bit more fun.

To play the person wearing the cat mask gets to count. Anyone wearing a mouse masks goes to hide. When the cat announces he or she is coming, the mice get to squeak (if they choose) until the cat finds them.

My kids love playing hide and seek, so I wasn’t surprised that they had a lot of fun with this. But I was surprised how long this held their attention they played over and over again…getting more and more convincing with their squeaking and mouse antics as they went along.

Ha! Mine aren’t either. That is one of my favorite parts about watching kids learn to play hide and seek. At least having them squeak helps keep the toddlers from screaming, “Hey, I’m over here!” ๐Ÿ™‚
