Whether you’re planning Grinch activities for home or the classroom, you’re sure to find some inspiration here.
Originally we started this as a fun family tradition at home, but over the years we’ve added in new ideas that have been helpful for Grinch Day at school and class holiday parties as well.
Our original Grinch Family Night was very much like our Polar Express Night. As I said in the original post about our DIY activity-based advent calendar, I wanted these activities to be simple.
We kept that in mind as we selected a couple of ideas from this collection of Grinch activities. My hope is to spend extra time playing and laughing with my family. I loved this recent post from Mummyology reminding us to make time for Christmas time, so in her words we are taking a lot of time to “just BE” this week.

For Grinch night we again ate dinner a bit early so everyone could be bathed and in PJs for the movie. I’ve wanted to try some of the ideas from Bath Activities for Kids, so we tried a simple version of The Grinch Bath. As the directions say, I added a bit of green food coloring and peppermint extract to the girls’ bath water. I didn’t have many bath-friendly Christmas toys, so I mixed up a little bath paint with shaving cream and red food coloring. The whole bath took about 2 minutes to put together, and the girls had tons of fun painting and enjoying the peppermint scent. Well worth it, I’d say!
After bath we all snuggled and watched the original Grinch movie together. I know that the laughing, tickling and silly play that is a regular part of our movie nights is something we will all remember even after the girls are older. We’ll also spend time watching the newest version of the Grinch, but it’s a bit long for a busy weeknight.
