Sleeping Beauty is Disney’s ultimate fairy tale. This sponsored post is in honor of the upcoming release of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty Diamond Edition on Blu-ray™ and Digital HD. Although Princess Aurora is certainly the star of the movie, we wanted to focus on her biggest helpers, the good fairies. We did so by practicing fairy hat and magic spell color matching. Then we had fun coming up with some good magic spells of our own, so we could be helpers just like the fairies.
Get Ready
The fairies’ hats were the inspiration for this color matching game, so I purchased some paper plates, party hats, and colored pom poms in the colors closest to the hats that I could find.
I also grabbed a fairy wand we had around the house. If you don’t have one, you can make a quick one with a wooden dowel and sparkly paint.
And the preparation is super quick! All I did was set the hats on top of the paper plates and tuck in the strings. Set the pom poms and wand next to the “hats” and you’re ready to play! Love it, right?!
Match Good “Spells” to Fairy Hats
I introduced the activity by talking about the names of the fairies in Disney’s Sleeping Beauty {Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather}. We talked about how the fairies helped Aurora by casting good magic spells, but I told my daughter that we had a problem. All the fairies’ good magic spells (pom poms) had gotten mixed up and they needed our help sorting them out.
She was happy to help them fix the problem, and she sorted the colored pom poms onto the colored “hats.”
Cast Good Spells Like the Fairies
Then I told her it was our turn to be helpers like the good fairies. We talked about good magic spells we could cast to help Aurora and our own family and friends if we were fairies.
She loved this part, and I loved hearing her sweet ideas for helping others.
There were lots of “abracadabras” and “bibbidi bobbidis” followed by some very thoughtful magic spells.
